Internet to Blame for Store Closing

Another closing of a Sears store in downtown Calgary, where the Calgary Stampede is held every year in July. I hope the employees were transferred to other stores in the city rather than being laid off. They can all thank the internet for lower profits and reduced sales.

What is it that attracts us to the internet? Is it just the price? Is it the selection? I know for myself, I believe that I can get the best price or value on the internet. Lets do some comparison shopping here. I am going to take this week’s flyers and compare the prices and selection.

Logitech Cordless Keyboard and Mouse Combo

In the Future Shop or Best Buy flyer, I can buy this at a saving of $40, or a price of $29.99. That’s a pretty good price for both keyboard and mouse, especially when I want to stretch out and not get restricted by the wires attaching to my computer. Looking on Tiger Direct.com, they have the same keyboard and mouse combo for $29.99 less an instant $5 rebate.  Difference is $5.00.

Canon SD750 7.1 Megapixel Digital Camera

In the Future Shop flyer, I can buy a 7.1 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom and 3.0” LCD screen for $259.99, a saving of $30. If I buy it this week, I get a flexible tripod free with my purchase. Not bad. Now, lets look at Tiger Direct.com and see what they have to offer. For $169.97, I can buy the SD1000, 7.1 megapixel camera with a 3x optical zoom but only a 2.5” LCD screen. The question I have to ask myself is whether half an inch is worth a $90 saving? Difference is $90.00.

Kingston 4GB Data Traveler USB 2.0 Flash Memory Drive

Again in the Future Shop flyer, I can buy a 4GB USB flash memory drive for $34.99 after a $15 saving. Looking at Tiger Direct.com, the same drive is priced at $24.99. Difference is $10.00.

Lets try another flyer.

Verbatim 15-in-1 Universal Card Reader

In the Staples flyer, I can pick up a 15-in-1 card reader to transfer my photos from my memory card to my computer for $19.84, a saving of $15. Checking with Tiger Direct.com, I see that I can get a Sabrent All-in-One USB Reader/ Writer Combo for $9.99 (that’s $19.99 - $10 instant rebate) but this card is a 52-in-1. Difference is $10.00.

You can be the judge. Personally for the above deals, I would buy the Sabrent 52-in-1 card reader/writer, SD1000 camera with a smaller LCD screen, 8 GB USB drive from eCost Bargain Countdown for $28.00 (and double my memory capacity) and have the goods shipped to my front door. For the Future Shop purchase, I would spend an extra $5.00 but would hold firm when pressured to get the extended warranty.

These deals and more can be found on our Latest Deals page.
