If I had to buy another music player, would I choose to buy a genuine iPod? The answer is yes. Lets say I had a limited budget and want to carry music around with me. For as little as $20, you can get something like the Mach Speed MP3 player with voice recorder. It has 1GB storage which is equivalent to the lowest Apple 1GB Shuffle selling for $50, so that’s a saving of $30. To get music on the Mach Speed, you attach it to your PC and you can copy music onto it, either downloaded from somewhere or you can rip it off a CD.
You may be asking what all the hype is in owning an iPod. One of the things going for a real iPod is the looks. Apple comes up with the nicest looking gadgets and any iPod, whether it is the shuffle or the Nano’s, looks cool and feels real nice in your hands. Just handle one at a store and compare it to another device. I’m sure you’ll like the look and feel.
Then there’s the accessories for it. Most stores carry iPod accessories, as oppose to Mach Speed accessories. Even with the bigger names like SanDisk or Microsoft’s Zune, it’s sometimes hard to find accessories that fit these devices.
With all the accessories for your iPod, you might think you can easily spend more money on your iPod. One of the greatest things going for something this popular is the amount of competition you get. There are so many manufacturers that make iPod accessories that the price can range from free to $100 for the same accessory. Take for example the iPod FM transmitter. We had a free one available in our Free Stuff section last month and now it sells it for $20. Don’t try to get one for free to fit your other MP3 players because they won’t fit. Unless you want to get it for free, sell it on ebay then take the money and buy one for your MP3 player, assuming there is one for available for your brand of player.
Another reason for sticking with an authentic iPod is all the downloads and podcasts available for it. Look at iAmplify, a company that sells a lot of its downloads for iPods.
